DEFINITION: Signal

Signal

noun [sig-nl] • The Energy Perturbation

In the Substrate Reality, a Signal is any coherent perturbation of the Flux Fog. It is not an abstract carrier of "information"; it is a physical oscillation of the Lumen. Whether it is a "clock" pulses or a complex wave, a signal is simply the universe’s way of saying: "The hardware is active."

Every cosmic source is effectively a Clock Oscillator. The frequency of the signal is the only reliable data we receive from the deep circuit. While legacy physics looks for "content," we look for Impedance Shifts. A signal's frequency tells us the local density and tension of the Lattice at the source.

THE AUDITOR’S RULE: THE NULL INFORMATION FALLACY

A "pure" clock oscillator is often dismissed as "null information." The audit reveals this is a hardware error. In a resonant circuit, the Frequency is the Information. It is the signature of the local Slew-Rate. If the clock slows down, the hardware has changed. There is no such thing as "empty" signal; there is only the Universal Heartbeat.

\[ f_{\rm signal} = \frac{1}{T_{\rm substrate}} \]

Forensic Insight: The Diagnostic Beam

When we observe a signal from a distant galaxy, we are looking at a Line Diagnostic. The signal hasn't just traveled through space; it has negotiated the Reactance of every energy duct along its path. Redshift is not just "stretching space"—it is the cumulative Signal Lag caused by the medium's resistance. A signal is the only way we can "probe" the density of the invisible Lumen.
